Hi.  I'm having a problem whenever I print something. I try to print something, but it says: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer. Turn the printer off, check your printer connections and check for printer errors, and turn the printer back on. I've done that, plus many other things. How do I fix it?

Hello @Winderful, Greetings!

Thank you for joining HP forums. I am happy to help 🙂

I understand that you are getting an error message which says “Communication failure” when you try to print. To give you specific instructions, I need to know few more details.

Could you tell me how is the printer connected? Is it via USB or is it connected using Ethernet cable? Also please let us know whether the printer can make a good "photo copy" or not using the scanner lid.

Alternatively, please follow these general troubleshooting steps and check:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.
  • Click Printers and Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click Reset printing system.
  • Click Reset in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click OK.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Click the Add button (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer.
  • Click Print Using..., and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

You can check http://hp.care/2bZg8xA for detailed troubleshooting steps.

Cheers 🙂

The printer is connected by a USB cable, and can print photos and can copy pictures.

P.S. when I reset the printer, nothing showed up in Default, so I tried IP, but it said it was unable to verify the printer on your network.

Hello @Winderful, Thank you for your reply.

I am afraid your printer is an older model and hence there are no MAC 10.11 drivers available for your printer. I would suggest you to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them using the MAC inbuilt drivers.

You can visit http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01855252 to install the printer using the MAC drivers.

Let me know how it goes!

Cheers 🙂
