Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer and it is unable to print on the 8 1/2 by 11 photo paper. The printer keeps saying the paper tray is empty. Not to worry, I'll do my best to assist you here.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Is the printer able to pick the paper while printing other documents?
  • Does printing on other photo paper work fine?

Meanwhile, I did some research and found the supported paper sizes. You may view this link for the supported paper sizes.

I do not see that 8 1/2 x 11 (letter size) is not supported by this printer. And that could be a reason why the printer is not picking up the photo paper.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to reply for any further questions. Cheers! 🙂
