Hello,

My HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer is demanding that I replace the yellow ink cartridge.  I just want to print in black and white. The Black ink is brand new. Must I replace the yellow ink to print in black?

Hi,

Looked like you wanted to print Grayscale. As you know, we can mix all prime colors at a RIGHT amount we can get from Black to White.

Asking printer to print grayscale it will mix YMC colors together to print. If you wish to print Black & White only, you have to tell your printer. Please try:

(a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
(b) Click Set Preferences,
(c) Click Advanced,
(d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
(e) Click Ok/Apply ...

Note: Printer still needs all color inks and it will consume a very small amount of inks during warming up process.

Now, printer may still ask for Yellow again you have to try few times.

Regards.
