I have a photsmart C 7280.  According to HP it has ePrint.  I tried to print both from my HTC ONE (M7) and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 tablet.  Both have KitKat 4.4.2 op. sys.  Niether one detect the printer although they are all on the same network.  The printer is connected via cable to the router.  I can detect and print from my computers that are on the same network.

What do I need to do so the Android gadget recognize the printer?

Hello UriB,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I understand that you are trying to print from your Android devices to your Photosmart C7280 printer.

Your Photosmart C7280 printer does not support the ePrint feature found on the newer models of HP printers, however it does support the HP ePrint mobile app. To be able to print from your Android devices to your printer the printer and Android devices need to be connected to the same wireless network. This will require you to switch the connection type of the printer from an ethernet connection to a wireless connection.

To connect the printer to your wireless network, please run the Wireless Setup Wizard found on the front panel of the printer. If you are unsure how to do this, the steps can be found on page 41 of your User Guide in the section titled “To connect the HP All-in-One with the Wireless Setup Wizard”. Once you have connected the printer to your wireless network you will need to update your computer to reflect the connection type change.   The steps on how to do this are the same as switching from a USB cable connection to a wireless connection. Those steps can be found at HP’s Wireless Printing Center – Reconfigure a printer.

Now that the printer is connected to your wireless network, when the Android devices are connected to the same network, the Android devices should be able to see your printer.

If you run into any issues with the above, please let me know at which step things went awry and what any error message might have said.

Thank you for the answer. However, for security reasons, I cannot connect the printer wirelessly to my network. It has to be connected via Ethernet cable. I understand that it will prevent me from printing off my Android devices. That brings me to the question, is there another HP printer that is newer, has at least the same quality of prints and pictures (and it is a great quality indeed), that will have the ability to print from android devices yet be connected via a cable to the network? Of course it has to be also a regular fax, copier and scanner. With full duplex ability. I know it is a tall order, but for the last 25 years HP always provided our customers and us with the best solutions and I would hate to go elsewhere. Any pointers will be appreciated

Hello UriB,

Thank you for the update I truly appreciate it.

There is a trend towards printers being incorporated to handle Near Field Communication (NFC). If your Android device supports this communication method, I would suggest looking at one of the HP printers that support it.

For reference about NFC on some of the HP printers that support this communication method, I’ve included the HP Officejet Pro 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, and 8660 e-All-in-One Printer Series Printer Specifications. As you review the specs, not all the printers mentioned in the Printer Specs support NFC, but several do.
