Envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Sometimes a doc goes in the queue but there's no printer action, then it clears from queue. Other times it prints a blank page. Other times a tiny bit of unintelligible crap. "Copy" function prints a blank page.  One "Test Page" was ignored, another did a blank page. Nothing is ever stuck in the queue.

As I understand you are having an issue with the printer not printing on your HP Envy 7640 printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Did you make any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges?

Did you clean the cartridge contacts as well as printhead on your printer?

In the meantime, let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow Solution seven: Print and evaluate a Print Quality Diagnostic report, and then troubleshoot any defects and follow the steps to clean the cartridges.

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, click here: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/en7640/EN7640_R1628A.exe

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Jeet_singh. I did the hard reset and when I tried to print the HP screen displayed a message warning that low ink levels may result in poor printing.  It trhen printed the document but most of it was blank/missing. These are the ink cartridges that came with the printer. The web page (http://[fe80::ee8e:b5ff:fe19:8331]/#hId-pgInkConsumables) reports low but OK ink levels.

Do you think low ink might be the problem?

Hi @BadGolfer313,

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As I understand you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, answering to your question, it could definitely be an issue with the Low ink, If you have alternate cartridges you could try installing them and check if it works.

For more details, please visit this link.

Please do perform the steps I had suggested as well and get back to me with the results for further assistance.

Regards,
