Printer paused and hitting resume button just cycles back to pause. note that the "Hold" icon has exclamation mark (Hold printing of selcted jobs} How do I correct??

Further to my question above, although by solution provided I was able to restore printing service to my MAC computer, however the "Hold" icon with exclamation mark, still remained. Because I have this computer (MAC) networked with two PC's, a Dell Laptop and a Compaq Desktop I noted that when I tried to print from the Dell Laptop it caused the printer to go into the pause mode again. Is it possible that the wireless connection is causing a problem? or a Hold printing of a selected job on the Dell computer is cancelling further print jobs?

I saw reviewed your post and to clarify, is the printer working fine with the Compaq Desktop?
If yes, you might want to contact the dell support to configure their computer to work with the printer, alternatively, you could also attempt reinstalling the drivers and checking the print settings over a wired network before you contact them.
