I have a replacement printer HP Photosmart 7510 that keeps saying I have the cartridge in the wrong slot. All 5 are in the correct slots.

Take a look at the following link that addresses Ink Cartridge Problems.  Click Here  You've done most of this, but do any steps not yet done.  The link suggests that you clean the contacts a second time.  Make sure the cartridges are level with each other.

If that doesn't help, I suggest that you do an Ink System Reset.  To do this, remove the ink cartridges and printhead.  See this link.  Close the carriage access cover.  Follow the hard reset instructions in the following link.  Click Here  Once the printer powers back up and indicates that the printhead is missing, reseat the printhead.  Close the access door.  When the printer indicates one or more of the ink cartridges are missing, re-seat one of them and close the access door until the cartridge registers.  Repeat the process until all cartridges are reseated.  Did this help?

Also, remember a click on the Kudos star to the left is a quick "Thanks" for a helpful post.

Hi alicebluegown,

You might double check the black cartridges and make sure the photo black is to the left and the regular black is to the right.

Can you give me the exact error message?  Is the message on the printer or on the computer?

Are the inks Starter Ink Cartridges?

The message is on the screen on the printer which says "Misinstalled cartridge. Remove and reinsert into correct slot." This is a replacement printer for a new printer that I took back only 7 months old. The printer cartridge froze up on it and they gave me this recondidioned one. It started giving me this message right away and if I messed around and took the cartridges out and put them back in it would start to work but that doesn't work any more. This time I replaced every ink cartridge with new ones but it won't work. I cleaned the four little points that meet up with the cartridges so they aren't dirty.

Rich, Well, this convinces me to take this printer back to the store where I bought the original printer. But, thanks for this information about removing the carriage. I bought an extra year of warranty so they will have to do the carriage replacement for free. It's so darned heavy to haul around but my husband can carry it for me since I'm such a weakling. Thank You

Sorry you weren't able to get the printer to work.  but I'm glad your husband is there to help.  Have a good day.  🙂
