We have an HP OfficJet 8610.  We recently purchased ink from NeedsInk and our printer started throwing errors saying that the ink cartridges were either broke, not installed correctly, or damaged.  It would sometimes tell us that there was no cartridge installed.  I tried installing an update that reallowed the use of thrid party ink cartridges, and now the printer is throwing a different error.  It now claims there is a problem with the printhead, even though we haven't printed anything.  It also claims that there is no black ink cartridge, but still accepts the color cartirdges.  I tried cleaning the printhead, but it did not work.  

 

Is there any way to fix this problem?  If it is the ink, what are the brands that are accepted in these printers?

This Post pertains to the following OfficeJet products listed in the following table that has new firmware that disables the cartridge security affecting cartridges using Non-HP security chips.  If your printer is not listed here, it is not affected.

Thank you, but I have already tried installing that. That is what changed the error to the "print head problem" error.

Well now you have a different error.  Might want to contact the cartridge company to see what they can do.  Otherwise check the HP web site for the 8610 printer to see if anything there will help.
