Machine will not align. No page detected. Printer status report and print quality okay. When I try to copy I get a page with all colors and black in a downward direction covering the page. New HP print cartridges expiring in 2017 installed.

Hi @kthejewel,
Good Day! Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community I understand that there are issues with the copying feature of the printer and it does not align or copy properly. I’ll be glad to assist you here.:)
You’ve done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end. Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with tech-savvy and technically competent customers like you. We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
It looks like a hardware issue with the scanning mechanism of the printer and it may need to be serviced.
Please print an internal test page from the printer’s control panel by going to reports.
- Press Menu or Setup.
- Press the Right or Down Arrow until Print Report displays and then press Enter.
- Press the Right or Down Arrow until Self-Test Report displays and then press Enter.
If the product does not have a Right or Down Arrow, press Menu repeatedly until Self-Test Report displays and then press Enter , Select/Resume , or OK
Then use the self test page to copy and check if it copies fine.
If it does not then there is a hardware issue with the scanning mechanism. If it does copy correctly,
Please follow this document and perform all the requires steps: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-e-All-in-One-Printer-series---D1/4023244/model/402...
Please perform a hard reset on the printer.
- Power up the printer and remove the cartridges. Then unplug the power cord of the printer with the printer powered on.
- Hold down the printer power button for 30 seconds and wait for a minute before reconnecting the power cord. Then reinstall the cartridges.
I will also send you steps to perform a semi full reset as a last resort to check if that fixes the issue. The steps will be sent to you as a private message. So please perform these steps and check. If nothing works, please contact HP phone support to get the unit serviced.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Trust me I have done all I can to help by keeping your best interest in mind. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
