This is a very simple problem to correct but I just don't know how to do it.  I have a very nice Photosmart Premium c309a All-in-One printer.  I want to print lines, text, and boxes, etc., in differing shades of gray.  I am sure this can be easily corrected by correcting a simple setting.  I just don't know where it is.  Please help me.  Thank you!

Hello @Blackbelt7155,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you would like to print shades of gray pictures using the Photosmart Premium C309A. I will do my best to assist you! First, I do need to ask you some more questions to clarify this issue:

What is your operating system on your computer? Windows or Mac?
What program are you printing from on your computer?

Are you using a different type of media paper?

Please verify this information and I will assist you further. Have a great day! :generic:

I also hope I did not hit the wrong button here and ssay my problem is solved, because it isn't yet.  I've never used this forum before.  So, please accept my humble apology if it shows my problem is solved because it isn't yet.  Thank you so much for your help Cheetah!

Please follow this entire HP document on Printer Driver Setting Definitions for Photosmart Printer. You want to change the print settings within your printer driver in to set print in grayscale. This document explains information on how to change certain menu's within the driver:

1) Go into devices and printers on your computer

2) Right click on your printer and select printing preferences

3) Go to the color tab at the very top, then select print in grayscale

4) You can select high quality or black ink only

5) Also, there may be an option to click on more color options (Look at figure 5 from the document above)

You can change the print settings from Microsoft Word. In this document click on print, then printer properties. Click on paper quality tab. There should be an option in there to select print in grayscale.

Also, in Microsoft Word, you can add a picture, then right click with your mouse on this picture. Select from the menu "Format Picture". Click on the tab "Picture", then under "Image Control: Color" pull the drop down and select "Black and White". This will convert the picture into a Black and white. There is many other options that you can play around with. I hope this helps. Have a great day!
