Hi
I'm trying to print 6x4 photos but am too confused about all the settings. Page size vs photo size, what do I need to select in order to print?
Thanks

Commentary

  1. Page Size (depends on where you are seeing the term) may refer to the Size of of the Paper, the size of the printed image relative to the size of the paper, or the magnification setting.
  2. Photo size usually refers to the original size of the image: pixels (wide by tall), aspect ratio (ratio of the width to the height of an image or screen).

The amount of information you need depends on the results you are trying to obtain.

If your purpose is simply to get the image printed onto a particular size paper:

undefined  Use a program that removes much of the guesswork (auto selects settings):  HP Photo Creations

OR

undefined  Open the photo in one of several simple photo viewing programs; at the least, select:

  • Media type (some form of photo paper) >
  • Size of the paper (Paper Size) >
  • Source - Tray (Photo or Tray 1 depending on your printer model)
  • Orientation (if necessary)

Understand that if the shape of the original photo does not fit the shape of your paper, that the result may include one or more of the following oddities:

  • Chopped edges (image not completely within the boundaries of the paper),
  • Photo may contain oddly shaped borders (too much, too little white around the edges),
  • Photo may be tiny or too large for the selected paper (similar to chopping although the cause is different)

Thanks sounds too complex. Trying to print on small size 4x6 photo paper which doesn't work. Will read through and give it another shot

Ignore the comments regarding Aspect Ratio.

You only need to know about this if your photo is not appropriate for the 4X6 paper shape; even then it doesn't matter unless the border must be "just so".

Try using Photo Creation software.

Hi Mayatrix.

Here's a link to the Quick Prints in HP Photo Creations. You'll find 4x6 photos there:

Quick Prints

After choosing a size, click the Print my own button, add your photos, and then click Print. (If you don't have HP Photo Creations already, you'll be prompted to download it. It's a free download.)

You'll see a preview before you print. If necessary, you can adjust the image size and paper size to match as shown below.

Here are step-by-step directions for adding photos:

Hope this helps,
