Officejet 8600
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I have an Officejet pro 8600 and I wanted to know if there is way view the print history.   I have the printer set as a static IP and Airprint is off. For example, I have one printer in my home.  I have teenagers using the printer.  The are using a Windows 8 laptop connected to the printer via IP address.  I would like to know what they were printing and how many pages of the document or picture.  It is a color printer and teens tend to go overboard with printing.

I know the typical response would be don't let them print or delete the printer.

Can I find out what was printed to this printer?

Reprint > Save a print job and reprint it later

You can set up "Reprint" in the Printer Properties.

After the "save for reprint / print later" feature is set up, thereafter you will have a list of printed documents that can be checked, reprinted, or (perhaps) output to a file.

Reprint a print job – save a job for reprinting later

There are caveats:

Bullet_Arrow_2.JPG The Printer Queue and the folders used to save the print files can be emptied by those users having "Admin" control / privilege.

If, for any reason, you cannot control who has control / access to the printer queue and the folder in which the files / history are stored, and you have reason to believe the data is at risk of being removed, you might find someone to write a short script that is activated when the printer is used to quickly copy the print information to a remote disk or Cloud drive (to which you, and only you, have access / control).

Bullet_Arrow_2.JPGIf the printer queue ever becomes corrupted, and the folder in which the jobs are saved must be cleared, the files will necessarily be removed during the "cleanup" procedure.

Assuming you have control (through Admin access and / or disciplined users) over the folders in which the print history data is stored, then you can decide whether it is important to copy that data or simply view it and then leave it alone (or delete it).

Number of Pages, Page Size, Media type > Usage Reports:

Depending on your printer, your Operating System, and your printer setup, the following might be available.  Presentation may vary from the example shown.

Open EWS (Embedded Web Server) in Browser:

Open your favorite browser > open a new tab > enter the printer's IP address in the URL

OR

Open EWS using the Printer Assistant icon shortcut on your Desktop (named for your printer):

Double click Printer Assistant icon > tab Print, Scan, & Fax > Printer Home (EWS)

EWS Printer Page:

Tools > Reports > Usage Report
