Based on what you've described, it sounds like you've got colors that aren't printing out.  Since that happens when you're printing from the printer without using any software, I don't think that reinstalling the software is going to make a difference.

On the following link...

...skip solution one, but use solution 2 to compare against what you see when you print out the self-test page.  The rest of the page should help you determine your next steps.

Check back and let me know what happens.

I discussed this with a colleague and he suggested that you should check the ink cartridge again to make sure the tape was removed when you replaced the cartridges.

This video demonstrates how to replace cartridges on your printer - including steps for removing the tape.

thanks for all you help... however I'm no longer near the printer in question and won't be able to try your solution.  I do know that the film was removed before installing the new black ink into the tray.  So...I'll either try and find the fix 6 months from now or go ahead and buy a new one.  They have become so inexpensive.  Again thanks...

It is almost certainly a software problem.

I have a PDF with black text printing as blue for only one of its pages when printed from Preview.app.

The same PDF prints correctly from Adobe Reader X, available from http://get.adobe.com/reader/

I definitely prefer to use Preview.app, but for now if I see this problem again I will remember to print from Adobe Reader.

I had my cartridges refilled and now it is printing blue. Did somebody change something?

Thanks

Print most in blue

Yup, that can be the least of your problems using refilled cartridges.

If you want your printer to perform like it should, use the ink and cartridges that were designed to work with it.

I have the problem (test page, config page, documents from any app, all black print areas print blue) on an HP1200 Business Inkjet running off Windows 7 WITH A BRAND NEW HP BRAND BLACK CARTRIDGE with a 2018 expiry date. This is a new problem that began exactly when the new cartridge was installed. I've removed and cleaned the copper square contacts on the printhead as recommended. What comes off the printhead is black ink. What comes out of the cartridge is black ink.

None of the previous mentioned fixes including the HP online suggestion of printhead contact cleaning made any difference at all.   Please advise, and thanks.
