Hi, I'm having issues with my printer, black ink is smudging big time, cleaning and realigning the heads doesn't help. Colour is working fine, despite the ink being depleted.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Are you using genuine HP Ink?
As you have already tried cleaning and realigning the printer.
Recommend you try another black cartridge and check.
If the issue is resolved by the new black cartridge, please contact our phone support for the service options available for the cartridge.
If the issue persists with the new cartridge as well, please try the steps suggested in this HP Article.

Please follow the procedure mentioned below to contact our phone support.
- Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
- Enter Product number or select to auto detects
- Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
- Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number.
