HP OFFICEJET5740 e-All-In-One_
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

When I print my cards on A4 cardstock all is well, but wanted to make smaller cards and trying to print on 4 x 6 cardstock but cannot do it. No matter what way I put the card in be it length wise or across it just does not work but if I make my card 4 x 6 and have A4 Card in it prints lovely but it is a waste of card.

Can anyone help and tell me what I am doing wrong been trying all different combinations

would be gratefull if someone understands what I am saying!

regards

sive

If you have not done so, install the Full Feature Software for the printer.

After the FFS is installed, you can create a Custom Form for your little cards.

Be sure when you are choosing a template (an existing form paper size which you will make your new form), that you choose an original form of a similar "Paper type" (Media).  For example, if your new form will be printing on card stock, choose something from the list of existing sizes that can print on card stock.  (Don't use an "envelope" to make a little card form.)

If your printer has more than one tray, select "Tray 1" for your little cards in Preferences.  (Don't let the printer decide the paper source.)

I may misunderstand what you are doing --

Does the 4X6" card stock fold into (say) 2X6 inches?

Or, is the 4X6" card the total size of a single surface?

Your printer supports Duplex on a limited range of paper sizes:

Duplexer media sizes
Letter, Executive [all media lengths between 140 and 310 mm (5.5 and 12.2 in)]

Depending on what you are trying to do, one of the following may help you configure the card:

  • Download and install the (free) Avery software for PC  >
  • Select Project type: Templates Cards and Tags >
  • Template Product Number suggestion:  #8380  Select Wide OR Tall >
  • Double Click on your template selection to open >
  • Double Click again on selection to start the project

Printing Labels_Business-Cards_Cards

  • Be sure to "save" your project (tiny "save" icon on Preview and Print menu).
  • Note that although #8380 project allows you to create both a front and back, the printer likely only supports "single" side printing in this size.  Rats.

Load Paper in Tray 1, face down (printed side down) > narrow edge to the back

When ready to print project:

Click green Print icon on project page >

Printer Properties > tab Layout: Orientation = Landscape >

tab Paper / Quality: Media = Other Greeting Cards (or as available for your printer)

Advanced >

Paper Source = Tray 1

Paper Size = 4X6in. (or name of your custom tempate) >

OK > OK

Print project

Be Aware:

If you try to select Printing Preferences that are not allowed in combination with your other settings (duplex, Media (kind of paper), size...), you will see a tiny yellow triangle  Yellow_Status.png on the "illegal" setting.

For example, duplex is likely not available in combination with this size of paper.

The following is a "guess"; I do not use Craft Artist2 software.  It may at least help point you in the right direction to complete the task.

Programs used to print can mask the Printing Preferences with the program's own setup / parameters.

That is not to say you cannot print on the printer using the program, it means that the program may - or may not - provide access to the necessary Printing Preferences within the program.  You might need to set up the Preferences and then print the card from the program.

Printing a card that is 4X6 inches folded is not the same as printing on a 4X6 inch card.

The size of your paper is actually (in this case) twice the length of the folded side.

When you create your Custom Size form, you need to make the form the size of the "not" folded sheet of paper.

Reference Paper Sizes

International A paper sizes
 MillimetersInches
A0841 × 118933.1 × 46.8
A1594 × 84123.4 × 33.1
A2420 × 59416.5 × 23.4
A3297 × 42011.7 × 16.5
A4210 × 2978.3 × 11.7
A5148 × 2105.8 × 8.3
A6105 × 1484.1 × 5.8
A774 × 1052.9 × 4.1
A852 × 742.0 × 2.9
A937 × 521.5 × 2.0
A1026 × 371.0 × 1.5

It is doubtful you can shove folded cardstock into that consumer grade printer.

Create a custom size form in the size of the (open / unfolded) paper.

As a template for the "new" form, you want to select an original that (somewhat) matches your desired output.  Use the unfolded size as a starting point; select a template (original form) size that is close to that size.

Fancy_Lines_2.jpg

Printing on the "back side of the paper"?

Keep in mind that the printer duplexer can handle certain paper weights.

Folded cards frequently do use "both sides" of the paper:  Images and text on "front", Message in the inside (back of paper).

Before printing >>

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer >

Open Printing Preferences >

tab Paper / Quality > Advanced > Select your (custom) paper size > OK  (closes Advanced)

Back in tab Paper / Quality >

Under Media, select your paper type from the list ** >

tab Layout >

Select Orientation = Portrait or Landscape

Print on both sides = Select long or short side

If the printer can accept the Media type (card stock, brochure, etc) along with the request for "print on both sides", then all is well.  If the selected Media type is not compatible with the duplexer, then when you try to select "both sides", you will see a little yellow triangle Yellow_Status.png

**

First time, select plain paper > adjust other settings (size, duplex, orientation) > Print a TEST output of your card on the plain paper.  Check to see if the output matches what you want when the "card" paper is folded into the card shape.

After you complete testing, you are ready to try printing a card.

Remove regular paper from Tray, Load card stock into printer  ("front side" face down) >

Select a Media type that "matches" your paper weight.

Selection list depends on what is available for your printer model.

For example, select "Other Greeting Cards" or perhaps "Brochure matte"

Fancy_Lines_2.jpg

After you have selected the Printing Preferences, use the program to configure the card (images and text); print on the appropriate portions of the paper (for front presentation, inside message, back).

Remove the paper from the printer and fold.
