Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I tried to print from a remote location to my Officejet Pro 8600 Plus via Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) from a laptop running Windows 7 but I don't know what URL I can use in Windows' "Add printer" wizard.

I try to add the printer with Add Printer Wizard the following way:

1.

Add a network, Wireless or Bluetooth printer

2.

I clicked on "The printer that I want isn't listed"

3.

I selected "Select a shared printerby name"

Here I  tried to use several URLs like (where aa.bb.cc.dd s the IP address of the printer):

http://aa.bb.cc.dd:631/printers/hp8600

and

http://aa.bb.cc.dd:631/hp8600

and

http://aa.bb.cc.dd:631/

but none of the URLs worked.

Windows always says the following: "Windows could not connect to the printer. Check the printer name and try again. If this is a netwrok printer, make sure that printer is turned on and, that the printer address is correct."

The network connectivity to the printer on port 631 and IP address aa.bb.cc.dd  is OK.

I tested it by telnetting to IP address aa.bb.cc.dd and port 631.

When I telnet to it to test TCP/IP connectivity I get:

HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request
Connection: close
Server: HP HTTP Server; HP Officejet Pro 8600 - CM750A; Serial Number: CN21TAK08Hxxxx; Coulomb_pp Built:Fri Apr 17, 2015 12:09:24PM {CLP1CN1516AR, ASIC id 0x00320104}

So printer is reachable on IP adress aa.bb.cc.dd and port 631 and it is not a firewall or other network problem.

I have Internet Printing Client installed on my Windows 7.

I installed it via Control Panel -> Programs and features -> Turn Windows features on or off -> Print and document services -> Internet Printing Client (checkbox checked)

I can connect via IPP to another printer wirhout any problem.

Can you please advise what is the right IPP URL in case of an Officejet Pro 8600 Plus?

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Regards, Gyorgy

Hi,

I can't help you with your IPP query but somebody else on the forums might.

For remote printing (printing when you are not on the the same wifi network as the printer) I would recommend that you setup eprint which will allow you to email content directly to the printer remotely.

To find the printers email address for ePrint,  you'll need to enable web services from the printer front panel. It's normally a button on the front panel or an option in a menu there.

The printer will need to be connected to your WiFI network and once the device is enabled it should print a page with a code made up of letters and numbers. This is the printers email address (when you append @hpeprint.com to it).

Once you have this, go ahead and setup a HP Connected account and register the printer to your account. This will enable you to manage the ePrint settings of the printer as well as track its job history.
