Hello.  A M1319F installed on a Windows 7 64 bit system.  The user is able to fax using a 4 digit extension.  She can also fax using a local 7 digit number.  She is using the buttons on the fax machine not the PC.  If she has to add her long distance code and the number it will not fax.  What she is dialing * (4 digit long distance access code) 9 1 AREA CODE and number.  We can dial the same numbers with the hand set and we can hear the fax tone from the recieving fax machine.  We thought about adding pauses but that didn't help.  We tried lower the fax speed to medium but that didn't help.  We tried a reset of the machine and that didn't help.  There appears to be a firm ware upgrade that I am going to check next.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

The firmware was applied and a second m 1319F MFP was installed in a different office and it is having the same problem.  It will not fax long distance.

HP Recommended

1. Enter a "9" to get an outside dial tone
2. Enter a "1" to indicate a long distance call
3. Enter the "Area code" of the number you are calling
4. Enter the " 7" digit phone number" that you are calling
5. Press the " Pause button " on the fax machine
6. Enter your "4 digit long distance authorization code"

Hope this information is useful to all.

We have to dial *6 then our code to get a long distance line.  I will try the *6 code (pause) a little different then your post but it is the same idea.  Thanks going to try it now.

Problem could be that if you press and hold * on the telephone keypad it will add a pause.  (That's HP's way of adding a pause since there is no comma on a telephone's keypad)  It would show up as a - (dash) in the display.

You might try hitting * quickly and see if it registers as a star or asterisk.  Another option, if you can program speed dials from your computer, would be to add the * on the computer and send it to your machine.
