Laserjet 4050
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed upd-pcl5-x64-5.9.0.18326.exe that worked before on Windows 7 & 10 64-bit. Now I get that the printer is in an error state or error printing on HP LaserJet 4050 Series. I tried many drivers and no one working. The printer is connected to the PC by LPT1.

How can I get my printer working?

There are known issues with Windows ten and lpt1.

Open device manager and find the settings for the LPT 1 port and look for a checkbox to tell it to use any available interrupt.

I wish I could be more explicit but I've only read about this fix on another dozen or so older LaserJets.

My LaserJet 4050 is connected to my computer with a parallel port and worked fine on Windows 8.  I download upd-pcl5-x64-5.9.0.18326.exe  and then I get a screen that asks to find my printer and it doesn't.  I was not told to unplug my printer prior to downloading Windows 10, and now understand if I had done that, probably my printer would still be there.  Can you tell me how to start this process?  I do have the upd-pcl5-x64-5.9.0.18326.exe driver downloaded but it cannot be executed.  Help!  I love my printer.

I think you must add it manually and then check the port. It must work.

So add the driver manually and then check the port?  Is it difficult to do it manually or do I need to get a

teenager over here to do it?

HP Recommended
Fix the port first, then I suspect it will find your printer without a problem.

You fix the port in device manager so the printer doesn't have to be installed.

Thank you for your information.  I did get the printer to work by adding an adapter.  The person I got to help me could not find the port and found info that by fixing the port, each time you reboot the computer, that connection breaks and you have to fix it again.  I will cut and paste the info that allowed me to get it done a different way for those who are not so computer savy.

"The LP1 port has worked since Windows 10 updates to build 1511 (OS build 10586.122) on the 2nd of March and still works after update 100586.164, on 9th March.  If you still need an adaptor this is the one I purchased which worked well.

He had it working in 3 minutes once the adapter was installed.  The person that gave this info is in the UK but my computer person used this info to find the right adapter heree at a computer store.  It took time to find a store that had one in stock.  We only needed to know if I had a  25 or 36 pin parallel cable.

Thanks for getting me started!
