Hello @jerefle
Try to do the following
Upgrade the operating system on the printer (Firmware)
HP LaserJet Pro Series Firmware Update Utility |
20210408 | 18.1 MB | Apr 20, 2021 | Download |
Select the operating system and choose the fimware option run the application and send the upgrade
Go to the printer and go the following changes after the upgrade
Set up > Network set up > Network services > IPV6 > Off
Set up > Network set up > Link speed > 100TX Full
Now off course at this point you want to re try using the feature
I thin its safe that we review for a moment as well the way thes set up was done
(All of the following information its just dummy data just to elaborate my point )
For gmail you may want to test with the 465 port as well
For hotmail you want to use smtp.live.com port 25 or 465
After this quick settings review if still it doesnt work then you want to do this
On this webpage with the ip address that you are on go to Networking > Network identification , save your primary and secondary DNS information and then change to primary to 8.8.8.8 and secondary to 8.8.4.4 and test again
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.

Thanks a lot Reskape!
Finally a refreshing response! I followed your instructions to update firmware and that didn't help. Then tried changing the DNS addresses and that did the trick. I'm back in business now. Thanks again!

Setting the IP address of the DNS server manually did not help (neither to the local DNS nor the Google's DNS).
What worked, was entering the IP address of the SMTP server manually (which, of course, defeats the purpose of having domain names in the first place). Of course, the SMTP port has to be enabled in the firewall.
I tried upgrading to the latest version (2016-07-29), which did nothing to resolve the problem. On the contrary, it is no longer enough to enable just the SMTP port to the mail host, I had to enable everything (there is probably a subset of this which works as well).
I'm still looking for a solution (and others in the German forum as well, http://h30492.www3.hp.com/t5/Drucker-und-All-in-One-Geräte-Installation-und/477dw-Keine-DNS-Abfrage-... ).
