DesignJet HP1120
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

An error message has appeared on the display screen. It reads 'Ink cartridges have to be reseated'  I have checked the cartridges and they have not expired and they contain ink. I have cleaned the ink cartridge contacts and then replaced them in the printer . The firmware has also been updated.

I am tempted to restore the factory settings if that will help.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Access the diagnostic menu and do the ISS and Leackage tests.

Access the Embedded Web Server and check the status and expiration dates there.

Best regards

Hi Mike

Thank you for your comments. I'm sorry to appear ignorant but where do I find the diagnostic menu? Is it on the printer's display screen? What is the ISS and Leakage tests? I have checked the HPT1120 user manual but cannot find any reference in the contents or index pages.

The last time I checked the EWS it confirmed that the ink cartridges had expired although the dates on the cartridges are still valid. The cartridges are HP bought from a reputable seller.

It also appears that I have now been blocked from using the EWS. I enter the printer's IP address and get a message saying that 'this site can't be reached, IP address took too long to respond'.

Since posting the above message and reply I have discovered that the printer's IP address changed when I uploaded the current firmware. I can now access the EWS!!

The error message 'Reseat ink cartiridge' has not disappeared but I am still able to use the printer. Why does all of this technology have to be so complicated? The majority of users just want a 'simple to use' device.

Hi,

The instructions are not on the User Manual, they are available on the Service Manual

To access the diagnostic menu do the following

- Turn the printer off

- Press and hold the up arrow and ok key

- Turn the printer on

- Let go the up arrow and ok key when you reach 11%

Access the Ink Delivery System Test (IDS)

Run the IDS test and leak test.

Doing a restore facory defauls is not a bad idea, try it

Best regards

Our T1500 Designjet printer keeps saying reseat ink cartridges or not the right cartridge. These are brand new cartridges from HP and for over 1k they better be right. Nothing we do works to get this printer to print. I have looked at all the suggestions on the board - and tried them to no avail - any other suggestions?

I have tried that and I can't get the test to come up

Hi @msdinghy1

The steps to access the diagnostinc menu are differente on the T1500.

I will recomend you to port a new question to get the proper instructions and dont mix the info here.

About the problem, make sure the ink cartridges are not leaking, remove the covers and make sure the tubes are not leaking. Then access the diagnosdict menu and run the leak and IDS test, see if there is an electrical problem.
