I forgot the printer password and cannot find out how to reset to factory settings (or the password itself) without entering it. How can i reset the password?
(To be more precise the password I set is not accepted afterwards but probably I misspelled it twice ... (length 20, lowercase characters and numbers)

It is a bug in the web-interface!
Solution: The length of the password has to be max. 16 characters.
(While setting the password there is no warning.
But when trying to change (secured) settings later you have to use the first 16 characters of your password!)
PS: To reset the printer I pressed the lower left corner of the touchscreen + Home + Return while powering on the printer

Hello together,
I also have the problem, that I cannot reset the passwort of my printer. I also tried to do your solution with the left corner + home + return while powering on the printer but it did not worked. Maybe I did a mistake or it is not working for me.
I tried the following:
1.) After pressing the power button, I pressed the button return + home + the questionmark until the end of the initialization process
2.) After pressing the power button, I pressed the button return + home + the left corner (not the question mark) until the end of the initialization process
3.) I also tried the same before pressing the power button and holded it until the end of the initialization. But nothing happened.
Am I doing something wrong or do I have to do something else?

I'm also not able to hard reset the printer with the Home+Return+bottom left corner+power-on procedures.
Is there a picture or image of where the "bottom left corner" actually located? I.e. is it where the "Reset" image would be if the printer were powered "on"? Or is it somewhere else?
Thanks.

Please clarify in more detail what you mean by " To reset the printer I pressed the lower left corner of the touchscreen + Home + Return while powering on the printer" I tried also with no success. I am willing to setup from scratch, but have to reset the bad password to a known one.
I can't get into any settings on the printer now.

I am really sorry that I cannot be of help to you.
I had to try it several times back then and ended up pressing all possible combinations (and even the complete left side of the panel) since I could not find any detailed information about this on the internet or manual.
Just keep trying =/
and good luck!
(I will try it again tomorrow and post more details if I can reproduce it!)

It had given me an error at one point then it froze with white or lit screen.
Resets dont work and updating firmware isnt possible as computer doesnt recognize it to send firmware.
Its new. Printer couple things then this occurred before I even had a chance to install software.
Im stuck.

The solution steps are in detail:
1.) Power off the System
2.) As soon as the energy Save is been displayed on the boot process
3.) Press left from the ? (Question Mark) in the active area of the display....
and wait.... it take some time....
4.) keep it pressed until the process init complete message appear
5.) As the printer is resetted complete setup have to be done again....

Thanks alot for the detailed step-by-step guide! My HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw printer has been reset! Wow!
I tried to reset the printer many times, but failed. Now the reset process actually worked the first time I tried after reading your post!
The timing and the precision of where you choose to push on the display is very important to succeed with the reset process!
