Scan always opens Windows 10 fax and scan , and scans to bmp

Hi:  Since a  couple of days ago whenever I scan directly from the printer's small screen the scanning is done to a bmp file and at the same time  Windows 10 Fax and Scan software opens. Furthermore the default destination folder has changed.

Ho do I set my default preferences as they were before ( PDF and a different destination folder) so I can scan without having to open the HP Scan software everytime I scan a new document?

Hi,

On Windows 10, the operating system WSD driver setup may add a scan shortcut to your printer.

From the printer screen click on Scan > Computer, then be sure to select your computer name. only then you will be able with the HP Software scan options such as Save as PDF, the options shown right after selecting Computer, but prior selecting the computer name are added by the operating system and therefore do not offer PDF scanning.

If you may not see your computer name listed after selecting Computer, is the printer connected via USB or through the network?

Thanks for your answer but I am not sure I understood you. Let me repeat my problem: as opposed to the situation a week ago now I am not able to scan to PDF by operationg only the printer ( buy this I mean without having to open the HP Scan software). Up to a week ago the printer itself would choose PDF output ( it would just ask me to confirm). Now it just asks me to star the scan and once I confirm, it opens Windos (10) Fax and Scan and scans to bmp. By the way, in Windows Fax and Scan there is no option to choose PDF  format .

If you you tried to explain a way to make this option available again in the printer I did not get the idea...

I would appreciate some further eplanation.
