I was able to get the HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP working as a printer and scanner with Windows 10 and with Windows 8.1. Here are the steps that worked for me.

1. In Control Panel, remove the printer. My Control Panel had 2 instances of the printer: one with the 1536dnf name, and another with a NPIxxxxx name. I think it is because I connect the 1536dnf with an Ethernet cable to my router, not a USB cable, so it gets a networked-printer name, too.

2. Go to the HP support website and find the 1536 dnf. DO NOT use the HP wizard-like software. Instead, use a manual approach.

3. Download-only the full software for the 1536 dnf.

4. Once downloaded, run the software.

After that, I was able to scan and print!

It took several hours of trial and error (mostly error) to get it to work on 2 PCs (Windows 10 and WIndows 8.1).

Have you heard HP installed software recently which bricks your printer if you use third party ink toner cartridges. I have that issue now suddenly my printer just stopped working or even booting up.
Then read this news item that it's an act of treachery by HP to punish you for not using their ink
So check out if you have dominated issue

Download new drivers not fix, even uninstalled and installed how many attempts it fails. Clean remove using print management nothing happened.

But I resolved the error/issue.

1. If you have installer, unplugged/off you internet connection.

2. Run the installer.

Not sure for the download drivers, if we go to this step.

1. Download the driver and click save when the download is finish. (Dont click RUN when download is finish.)

2. Restart your computer.

3. Unplugged/off your internet connection.

4.Run your download save drivers.

It's all about money sir.nothing else .I am using a hp1536dnf and it was working fine with original or third party toners but suddenly it stopped working saying cartridge not original and after that it does not even boot up properly. You don't decide customer experiece. Let us decide that. We don't need ink six to eight times more expensive for day to day printing needs.
Only result will be you will go the way kodak went. You should be atleast truthful because I will ditch HP if my printer does not recover. There are lots of alternatives. Remember the fate of Nokia blackberry
