HP Photsmart 5510 with Windows 8 Pro. This just started. I do alot of scanning of documents and save into pdf. Now when I scan then print I have a thin black line around my document. I cleaned glass and white side. I have updated my software from HP. Does not resolve issue.

Hello,

I see that you're having an issue with the scan having black lines. I would suggest using Windex and cleaning the strip of glass on the left side separated from the scan glass itself.

Also, make sure the printer is plugged into the wall and not a surge protector.

Sometimes the scanner picks up the edges of pages as thin black lines. You can check your scan software to see if it has an erase edges setting. You can check to see if the lines are paper edges by having one edge of the page extending over the glass to ensure there is no gap. If you still have a line on the other sides but not the one hanging over the glass it is probably the paper edges showing up. If you still have a line, I don't know.

The unwanted black lines are on the right side and there are about 3 of them from top to bottom.  I have cleaned the plastic strip and screen as instructed but still happens

Virtical lines or horizontal? And is the lines in the scanned image or only show up in prints? How aboout copy?

These are lines vertically down the right side of the paper from top to bottom -- about 3 of them

I am assuming you are scanning/copying a single piece of paper (not a magzine or a book, in thses situations, there will be a dark black boarder).
If the lines are in the scanned image (i.e. they were there when you view the image, or make a copy instead of scan then print), then the issue is with the scanner. Possibly caused by a few dead or blocked sensor cell. If the lines are always showing up at the same positions, then most likely dead censor cells, and to fix it you probably have to replace the scan module. If the lines move or number of lines change, then may be some dust got in there?
