Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I bought and setup an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw. Newest hp drivers are downloaded and installed.

I have a Mac and connect via wireless to the printer, which works great. The Mac runs Yosemite 10.10.3

My issue is scanning. There is no option for scanning anywhere, not on the printer's little screen, not on the printer's utility or anywhere.

Been spending hours online to look for an answer and is by now thoroughly annoyed.

I have already reset the printer systems, verified and repaired disc. Can't even scan with the options suggested on the hp forums using Apple caprure or preview. It seems that all these options relate to OS X versions before Yosemite??

Did I buy a multifunction printer that doesn't scan? I specifically told the shop assistant that I need a printer that can airprint and scan.....

Is it possible to scan to a mac at all with this printer?? Any help?

Hi @sa9494,

I see that you are having issues scanning. I will certainly do my best to help you.

Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw)

If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.

Here is a screen shot of what it should look like. Do you have the Scan tab across the top?

I have also included a document for HP Printers - Scanning with HP Software in OS X v10.10 Yosemite.

The scanning ports might not be open on the router causing this issue. You can contact the router company to check and open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router.

Connect the printer by the USB cable, to see if you have the same results scanning.

Let me know.

Thanks for your help. It ended up being a router problem. Replaced the router and the service provider opened up port 427 and voila, both wireless scanning and airprint is now working.
