Office Jet Pro 8610 printer
Microsoft Windows XP

Just hooked up the printer & is working fine for printing & fax.  Unable to get it to scan a document to email. Message received

"not connected to the computer" when trying to scan. ?????

Welcome back to the HP Forums, I'd be happy to help you with your Officejet printer scanning issue.

 

Going through your post, this looks like an issue with the printer drivers installed on your PC. Try the steps listed below to try and fix this issue:

 

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Add or remove program – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL51184/bi-124093-4/OJ8610_198.exe to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.


Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
