Scanjet 4850
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have a Scanjet 4850 that I use quite regularly for work. I haven't upgraded to win10 yet as there is currently no driver update for it. I noticed that there was a set of drivers for a real brief period of time, but it has since been pulled. Will a working update be available soon and if so what is the time frame? Thank you.

Hi TomKJ,

There's nothing wrong with being cautious before upgrading to Win 10! Go to this Scanjet thread for a possible solution to the issue.

Hope that helps!

The link you provided me was not helpful. It was another forum member venting about lack of driver support. Am I to assume that the Scanjet 4850 will no longer be supported?

You can try the Windows 8.1 install on Windows 10.  I tried this on my windows 10 machine and it said it installed successfully - no errors or blocking.  I don't have a Scanjet 4850 to plug in and try out but I'd give this a try if I were you.

Also, the windows 8.1 install on hp.com is a very simple dpinst based driver install.  It won't include a scan app or anything but should allow you to scan from applications such as paint.  Here's the link:

I'd go with the Windows 8.1 download.  I think it has a very good chance of working on Windows 10.  But here is another option:

http://www.hamrick.com/

The above link will take you to the VueScan website where you can buy VueScan (a third party non-HP app) which does support the scanjet 4850 and also Windows 10.

The disadvantage of the VueScan software is that it costs money, the advantage is that it includes a full scanning application.

Thank you very much. I use a 3rd party software for the scanner, Footlevelers, so any idea if these other 3rd party drivers would work too? Thanks again for any and all replies.
