HP Scanjet Pro 8300
macOS 10.12 Sierra

After upgrading my OS from Mountain Lion OS X 10.8 to Sierra OS X 12.12, my scanner will not save or print the item I scan.  The picture or document that I scan does seem to scan properly and I can see the item on the computer screen.  However when I save or print the scanned item, I get a solid black piece of paper or a solid black page on the screen.

I have been through the Setup and Support Guide but do not see any section that relates to this problem.

Would really appreciate help.

Sharon

I had one response to my question about HP Scanjet 8300 Pro not working with OS Sierra on an iMac.  It. was someone claiming to be HP Support and telling me to phone - the phone number was given.  When I called, the first thing he asked for was the serial number of my scanner.  I couldn't find it so he settled for the Model Number, and then he wanted  permission to take over my computer so he could "fix" my problem.  I had gone through a similar event with another manufactdurer which turned out to be a giant scam.  I prolitely gave my regrets and hung up.

After spending almost 40 minutes with Apple Support, I found tdhat my problem is that HP has never upgraded the Scanjet 8300 Pro for Apple computers.  And they have not upgraded the driver for Mac computers for several years.  I last had Mountain Lion and the scanner worked well. I waited as long as I could to upgrade the OS X because I was aware HP was neglecting this job.

HP has  upgraded Windows 10 to use that scanner.  This is a direct hit to my previous high opinion of HP.  Very sad.
