Scanjet 4570c
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

This scanner worked under Windows XP, has been in storage for a long time. I have plugged it in to the wall and turned it on, not connected to a computer (we now use Mac). Upon startup, the motor cycles to move the scan head. When the scan head reaches the end of its travel, the motor continues to run forward. It will run until the gears jump or the cogs and belt jump. There is no physical switch that I can see. I've taken the guide rod out and cleaned it; the scan head slides smoothly on the rod, and there is no sticking or interference along the travel of the scan head. Is this a software (code) issue, a motor issue, is there a switch that I can't find? Thanks for suggestions.

Hi robin57, good morning !

This case is related to the motor.
I'll recommend check this or send this scanner to the engineer verify.

If this necessary...The service manual to buy

I hope that helps !
