HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I recently (as in within the past three months) purchased an HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw to use in my home office, and attached it via USB to my iMac running Mac OS X 10.11.6 (OS X El Capitan).

While I haven't experienced any issues with printing, I am constantly running into issues with the scan feature.  When using the HP Easy Scan utility (Version 1.6.0 (94)), it often seems to take forever for anything to scan (particularly in duplex).  More often than not, I receive the following error:

Scanner reported an error

HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw (3B0606) is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again.

Instead of being a time saver, it is extremly frustrating and time consuming to get anything scanned, which is the primary reason I invested in this MFP.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the utilities, without any improvement.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Thank you in advance.
