HP Photosmart 6510
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer will not let me scan to computer.  I keep getting an error message that says:

"The HP scan application is currently in use with another task or another user on this computer.  Please wait until the other task is complete and then try again."

There is no other user on the scanner and no other scan in process and no way to cancel out.

I have tried the following with no success:

HP scan Doctor

Disconnecting the printer from the power source and reconnecting

Uninstalling the driver software and reinstalling

Please help

Hi! @JeffCl, Thank you for joining the HP Forums!

I understand that you have issues scan to the computer using the printer.

Kudos to you for trying out few steps before reaching out to us.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Generally, the reason why you would get "The HP Scan application is currently in use with another task or another user on this computer. Please wait until the other task is complete and then try again." is because the network signal is loosing connection and freezing the scan task or the previous scan operation never ended.
Please try the steps within these guides:

Step one: Turn off components
Turn off all the computers on the network.
 NOTE:
Any computer on the network can cause the error.
Turn off the product.
Turn off the wireless router.
Step two: Turn on components
Turn on the wireless router.
Turn on the product.
Turn on all the computers on the network.
Step three: Try to scan
Try to scan again.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot scan issues.

Let me know it this works!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂
