- Scanning at 1200 dpi of 477dw

Just got a new 477dw. Very nice. But I am having some trouble scanning at 1200dpi (which I do for scanning CD cover art - descreening works much better at 1200 dpi than 600 dpi).
Scan to Network Folder works very nicely, but only supports up to 600 dpi scanning. Any idea as to why 1200 dpi is not supported?
Also, the TIFF files generated cannot be read by my (oldish) Photoshop Elements 12 ("Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document" when I open the file in PS). Using JPG is not very good for halftone removal.
So far, the only solution I have found is to scan directly into Photoshop, but this is quite cumbersome.
Is there any other way of doing multiple scans from the printer at 1200 dpi?

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Please read this post regarding 1200 DPI scanning:
This example shows how it's done:
Create a scan shortcut and high resolution scans (HP Officejet Pro 8700 AiO series and 6900 series)
Hope that helps!

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. The video was useful in pointing out that 1200 dpi scanning is supported from the scan glass, but not from the ADF (which is a reasonable limitation - the ADF is intended for document scanning, where 600 dpi is a perfectly fine high resolution). Both the HP Scan program and the Win10 HP Scan and Capture app allow to limit scan to the scan glass and go all the way to 1200 dpi.
This does not really solve my practical issue. Both of those approaches need you to trigger the scan from the PC, not from the printer. Not a significant improvement from scanning directly in Photoshop: for each scan, I still need to go to the printer, put the next page (or CD insert) on the glass, go back to my PC and click on HP Scan. When doing single CDs, not really an issue. When doing a large box which has 40-80 CDs, this becomes a real chore.
The nice thing with Scan to Folder from the printer UI is that you can issue all the scan commands from the printer itself, which is very convenient. But it does not allow you to specify Scan from glass only, which (indirectly) limits you to 600 dpi.
I also played with Scan to Computer, but I could not find any way to change the defaults. It looks like the default actions are built-in, with no way to modify them or add more. AFAIK, the only control is whether Scan to Computer is enabled or not, not what it does.

Hi @tiberiuspv
Perhaps this might be your answer:
How to use "Scan to Computer" feature properly
Let us know if that works!

Another good video (if you're the author, kudos for your work...). This is (roughly) how I have been trying to use that feature. There are a few things that are strange:
1. Creating a new scan shortcut in the HP Scan app does not add it to the list of shortcuts available from the printer front panel. This is a bit counterintuitive, and limits you to 2 'flavors' of scans since there are only 2 Scan Shortcuts available (PDF and JPEG). Not a big issue for my application, but probably confusing for many users.
2. When doing Scan to Computer from the printer front panel, you get prompted for additional scans. Nice, exactly what I was looking for... But it does not work: I tried with three consecutive scans (of 3 different originals on the glass), got 3 JPEG files on the computer. But they were all 3 exactly identical, and contained the last image scanned. Sigh...
3. You need to exit the HP scan app from the desktop before starting Scan to Computer from the printer control panel. Exiting HP Scan after starting from the printer is not sufficient, you need to actually initiate a scan from HP Scan, the exit it to unblock the printer control panel. Again, not deadly but a source of user confusion.
4. It took me some time to figure out that the destination folder for the scan was part of the shortcut details under the destination section. Totally obvious in retrospect, but not entirely obvious to the naïve first time user (i.e. me...)
Out of those, the second one looks like a real software (or firmware) bug, since it makes the multiple-scan feature entirely useless... I'm currently running the latest software & firmware (38.6 software, 1708D firmware). Is there a channel to report bugs?
Thanks...
