Super Dave,

This is entirely too many steps when you are trying to scan as many photos as I have been doing.  The cheaper scanner/printer with the capability to separate automatically works much faster.  I am getting old.  Have too many things to do than sit here separating pictures when HP could put it in the program.  They just need to get a clue!

I'm with you Grammy....I even wrote an email to HP support help center and they sent me this long convoluted email about how it's not technoligically possible to do what we used to do and all I have to do is scan seperately or I can scan all at once and then click "next image" which essentially rescan's the whole thing.

Not sure what projects you are working on, but like I said I do a lot of genealogy and scanning of old photos.  Before I could knock out 16 photos in 4 simple scans and poof it was all done in 5 minutes.  Now the same projects requires 1) 16 seperate scans or 2) I can scan all four and then open up my Photo Suite, crop, resave.  Either way the project that once took 5 minutes now takes an hour.

HP has not been helpful in solving this issue which with todays technology I can't believe it is is that difficult for them to make a patchware or update for us to download and please their customers.  If they do not update this or improve this product I can assure you my next printer will not be HP...

I am realy disappointed !! ,

If new technology means less features then why move to this technology!!

I also can't believe HP reply.

Proposing to do it manually !! what a nice reply !!

I was surprised to see that the issue is marked as solved and this is the accepted solution !!

I am in total agreement with you about the time.  From 5 minutes to an hour.  Ridiculous.  I solved my problem by boxing the printer up and returning it to HP.  Then bought a cheaper one with the technology I wanted.  Problem solved.  Works great.  I am scanning photos for both my daughters.  Do not have time to waste with all the cropping that Hp said had to do.  Will probably not buy HP again.  Liked my old Kodak as far as the scanning program went but was murder on ink cartridges.  They were cheaper but had to buy lots more to accomplish same amount of printing.  Someone should take the best of all and combine in one really good program.

same problem! I bought an officejet 6600 today and just found out about this problem. I will return it tomorrow and will buy another brand!

I could just scream or cry one!! I just bought a new HP Pavillion desktop with Windows 7 64 bit (DONT DO IT!). Now the scanner on my perfectly good 8100 series HP printer doesn't work (no up to date driver) SO I have to buy another device to scan and now I find out I can't scan multiples???? I now have to scan each picture one at a time? Or rescan for every "page"! I am boxing this sucker up and returning it ASAP. I'll just buy a scanner. What the heck is HP doing? I really usually stand by HP, but seriously this has to be the second stupidest thing I have found out about this week. The first is don't buy Windows 7 unless you are sure all your devices have a driver for Windows 7 64 bit specifically.

When I click to add a page it just rescans.  Is this how it is suppose to work?  I end up scanning it twice.

I had an HP 8500 All-in-One scanner and couldn't haved been happier with it. The new 8600 Plus is a better scanner but the new software is the pits. Removing the ability to scan multiple photos in one pass is pathetic and I'm beyond disappointed in HP. You've taken a hugh step backward. This is a big Failure and you should be ashamed.

Just adding my $0.02.

I had an Officejet 8500.  Wore it out after four years of hard use, but loved it so bought a new 8500A.  (I live overseas, so they're still available here)   BAD MOVE.  The machine is great, but new HP software doesn't let me scan multiples.  At least not all at once.  And the old driver doesn't run the new machine.  Let me quote whoever said it earlier when I say this new software is a "PAIN IN THE REAR."

I too am one of the MANY HP customers who are disappointed with the changes to the scanner software.  I have owned no less than 15 high end/home smal business HP printers over the years.  My last one was the OJ8500.  I just replaced it with the OJ8600 and was very unhappy to find that the new scanner software had less features than its predecessors and that one could no longer scan multiple pictures at one time to separate files.  EPIC FAIL, HP!! I was getting ready to pack it up and return the printer when I found ScanSpeeder scanning software:  http://www.nitrologic.net/  It is not free ($29.95) but does allow a 10 scan trial.

ScanSpeeer allows you to scan multiple photos at once, it automatically finds the edge of each one and lets you type in info that is also saved in the file.  It also has a feature that will allow you to save an archival quality file and a web/e-mail quality image file at the same time.  AND, if you are so inclined, you can upload the lower resolution scan directly to Facebook.  I know I sound like I work for them (LOL) but I was just so happy to find software that could fix HP's stupid decision.

I have only used ScanSpeeder a few times but am very impressed by it and think that I am going to buy it.  So, ScanSpeeder appears to have saved you a sale, HP.  Very sad that another company had to fix what you broke.  Also, you owe me $30!!!
