Hi @pwolfson
Are you using the HP Scan Extended?
If you are and followed the steps in the video, you should be able to get the Auto Crop photos.
Do ensure that you Page Size is "Auto Detect Size"
Thanks.

I just purchase a Envy 5660 and was exasperated that I had to do all the croping. I "chatted" with an agent and my printer does it all automatically now. Maybe I had an old one - if so, I'm glad. Is the 5660 old. Oh well.

The "Newer Printer Software" may do it properly if the videl showed 3 images being scanned first. It does not. And it leaves those of us who mistakenly bought the "Oudated" printers with the old cut and paste manual crop provided by "Extended".
I tried that back in February when I first got disgusted with HP and posted this:
I just read your tutorial and it is NOT an acceptable solution to scanning multiple photos. It's actually faster to scan individual pictures rather than using this cut and paste patch. I have a new Officejet 5740 and found the same problem. When will HP wake up on this significant software downgrade and issue a fix?
My question at that time was: when will the "Updated" software work on the 5740?
It should have always worked properly on all HP models.

My Envy 5660 now will identify and scan photos when several are on the tray and allow them to be filed and saved separately. A "Chat" tech fixed it for me. All he did was have the Envy printer (series) as my choice. I don't know what else if anything but it works perfectly now.

He had me go to the control panel, devices and printers and for some reason there were two HP Envy5660 printers there. We deleted one and left one called HP Envy 5660 series (Network). I use that as default and multiple pictures are identified individually and I can save them. I do it wireless but I was using USB before but I can't imagine that mattered. Why it works now I'm not sure - but it does.

SOLVED:
Just got Auto Detect and Auto Crop back on a 5740. On 8/19/2016 I got a Software Update notice on Printer Assist for 2 updates. One was HP Basic Device Software and the other was HP Device Functions 14. It brought a new and cleaner looking UI Screen. Scan is still a tab there, but when you select Jpeg as Save Type there is a MORE tap in the top right corner. That tab provides an Input Page Size and one of the drop down options there I found a DETECT PHOTOS option. It auto crops and save each images to any selected file. WELL DONE.
