Just bought a 7740 to replace an antiquated unit. The product sheet says one can scan into a number of file formats: bmp, jpg, png, tiff, rtf, but the "full" featured software only allows scanning into jpg. Is there a way to unlock scanning into other file formats? Or, has HP removed this capability?
I have tried using the drop down menu for scanning photos, jpg is the only choice

There appear to be no options on the printer control panel for changing the file type to scan into.
This should not be this difficult.

Scanning issues…
Please try this scan solution:
HP Scan Extended
For Windows: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Make searchable PDF scans with this free scanning software - https://www.naps2.com/
Let us know.

Hi,
From the HP Scan software select Everyday Scan, this will allow selecting any of the required file formats.
The other shortcuts such as Save as PDF or Save as JPEG are only intended for the specific formats as their name.
