Officejet 4630
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have been printing and scannin from my Officejet 4630 for some time.  Recently, I attempted to scan through the ADF to my computer, but I kept getting the response "The ADF cover is open" but it was not open.  I raised unplugged the printer and plugged it back up after a couple of minutes,  but no luck with the scanner.  I have previously scanned through the ADF and using the glass-top as well with no problems.  This is really puzzling me.  I cannot scan using the menu on the printer either.  I checkied the User Manual online, but no help there.  I thought I would go this route before purchasing a new printer/scanner.

Hi @Bubba43,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you get an error message "The ADF cover is open" on your HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer.

This could be a hardware issue with the unit.

However, you may try to reset the unit by following the steps provided below:

1.Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
2.Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3.With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4.Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5.Wait at least 60 seconds.
6.Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
7.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8.Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
9.Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue still persists, then you may need to contact HP phone support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

You have a good day ahead.
