I do not have Windows Office so I use Open Office. I also use ABBYY Finereader OCR program. If I ask the Finereader to scan and read the document that's on the C5200 glass plate it only reads it. I therefore want to send the scan to Open Office in order to get it read with Finereader. But there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this with the options on offer on the C5200. So how can I do it, please? I suppose that HP C5200 is compatible with TWAIN or WIA?

Greetings @Anaglypta,
Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are using a 3rd party OCR program and are unable to edit the scanned document. Don't worry, I will be glad to help.
Have you tried the ReadIRIS software bundled with your printer software?
For you to be able to edit the scanned documents. Recommend you to use ReadIRIS OCR program to save the scanned file as *.doc and you can open the scanned files on OpenOffice and edit.
To download ReadIRIS please click here.
To download and install the full feature software, please click here.
Let me know if this helped.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it out but to no avail. My problem's answer lies in the settings, I think, not the type od OCR program I use. I have decided to revert to my old Epson SX115 instead of using the HP C5200 because that worked for me. Two examples of the problems I've had with HP is (i) that nobody will tell me whether or not it conforms to TWAIN or WIA and (ii) in using Readiris I have to select the type number of my printer and yet C5200 is not in the list. Also the HP forum which I've been talking to seems to have gone to sleep and fails to answer my questions. So print that if you dare!

Thanks for the reply and understand that you are able to use OCR through Epson printer. For you to be able to use HP printer for OCR, please make sure the full feature software for your printer is installed.
For assistance in using ReadIRIS, please watch the Youtube video for assistance or refer to this HP Article. (Though the article says Scanjet, the software and procedure are the same for your printer.)
Let me know how it goes.

Regarding the use of Readiris with ny C5200 HP scanner, I would have to use the scanner's installation disc, but unfortunately I don't have it. What I've done is to scan and read using ABBYY Finereader 9.0 and exported the result to Microsoft Word pad. Thanks for your attempt to help me though Chimney. I'll tick the kudos tab.

Thanks for the reply and if you do not have the disc, you can always download and install the full feature software from our website www.hp.com/drivers (enter the printer model to find the drivers on the website.)
