LaserJet Pro M201dw
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I am running OS X 10.10.5.

I installed a new router and the printer has been unable to find the new network. The blue wireless light is flashing. All other devices in the house are working as normal on the network. This is what I have already tried:

1.  First I tried a reset:  Unplugged the power cable to the router. Then turned off the printer. Next, shut down the computer. Finally, after one minute, I turned all back on in the same order as the shut down.

2.  Next I made sure that wireless was enabled on the printer: I pressed the wireless button, and then under Wireless Menu I made sure that Turn Wireless On was displayed.

3.  At this point I noticed from a Wireless Network Test Report under Configuration Summary that the Network Name (SSID) was reported as the old name. So under the printer’s Service Menu I navigated to Restore Defaults and hit OK, and then repeated Steps 1 and 2 above.

4.  Next I used the HP Uninstaller with the idea to reinstall afresh. I downloaded HP Easy Start 2.5.0.144 and attempted to install, but it hung-up on the Connect step. I searched for the printer using the IP address, which I found under Wireless Direct Setup from a Network Summary Report. I got the message No Device Found. I then connected the printer to the computer with a USB, which allowed me to Select the printer and downloaded and installed the software. I was able to print a Test Page with the USB connection. I then repeated the Steps 1 and 2 above.

5. I last went to the Setup Menu > Network Setup > IPv4 Config Method > Manual on the printer and entered all the requested  information from System Preferences on my Mac, and was still unsuccessful.

I am out of ideas.

Thanks.

  • Is the printer detected on the network?

I will include a couple of YouTube links for performing an NVRAM reset. Please check that out and it should do the trick for you.

YouTube Link for NVRAM reset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcNm9qyVdHc

Link 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHoFC8W4KXw

It resets the printer to factory defaults and you should be able to connect back to the network without hassles.

Thank you for responding.

I checked out the videos. I don't have that kind of touchpad screen on the M201dw, but I tried a restart of the printer holding down every button in turn that I do have in an attempt to initiate a NVRAM reset. This is my control panel:

I also looked for NVRAM reset in the Users Guide, but only found and performed:

No luck!

In answer to your question Is the printer detected on the network?

The network did appear in the wireless networks list on my computer under the default name HP-92-LaserJet ProM201dw until I was typing this line to confirm the name, and now I find HP-Setup-92-LaserJet pro M201dw

In answer to you rquestio What error message do you get while doing it?

I havn't really got an error message. When I was reinstalling the software/drivers the process would hang when a No Devices Detected message came up. I completed reinstallation by connecting with a USB.

Thanks again for your help. Cheers!

Thanks for all your help @DavidSMP but I have (I hope) one more hurdle.

I was successful with the Super NVRAM reset, and I followed that by making certain that Wireless is tuned on, and Wireless Direct is enabled.

I reset the modem, printer, and computer as described in my original post and still the printer is still not connected.

I releaunched HP Easy Start to finish the software download in wireless mode. (Recall that I unistalled the HP software in one of my early attempts to solve the problem, but had to complete the installation with the USB connection.) Back to the present, the installation process hung-up during the Connect step:

Connect1.jpg

Then, tried agian after extracting the relevant information from Reports > Network Summary > Wireless Direct Setup > IP Address and this time got:

Connect02.jpg

In addition, I also tried to complete the Connect step using the Host Name from the same report, and unfortunately got a similar result as above.

Since the NVRAM reset, I have printed  from the printer's Reports menu a Network Summary, a Configuration Report, and a Wireless Network Test Report. I mention this in case you think there is some relevant information from one of these that may help.

Note 1: HP-92-LaserJet Pro M201dw still does show up on the list of WiFi Networks that my computer is seeing.

Note 2: Under Wireless Netwrok Test Report > Troubleshooting I have the statement: No problems found. Congratulations on successfully setting up your HP wireless printer.

Thanks again for all your help with this. I appreciate it very much.
