Laserjet 4050
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I am trying to setup my old Laserjet 4050 on my new Windows 8.1 (64bit) computer.  I have gotten a parallel to USB cable and tried to download the latest drivers but the it is not identifing the printer (doesn't show up in the "printers" section of the control pannel).  Help - any suggestions as to how to get it set up would be appreciated.  I love this printer (it has worked for 6 years without a problem).

It has been my experience that the parallel to USB cables do not work that well.

Most people today have a small home network or the ability to have one with a router for the internet.  If you have a router, then you can buy off ebay a jetdirect eithernet card for the printer, install it and attach the printer to the router and then attach the printer to the computer as a local tcp/ip printer.  If you decide to go that route post back for dtailed instructions when you get the card.

I just got my JetDirect 620n card and put it in (no problem).  Now what do I do to connect it to my home network?  I have a WiFi network with a Linksys WRT 1900AC roluter.  My main computer is running Win 8.1 and I have two laptops and tow cell phones connected in WiFi network and one WiFi printer (brother MFP).  I have a Ethernet cable to connect to the router.

Thanks

Plug the ethernet cable into the jet direct card and the other end into the router. Now turn on the printer while holding down the green button until you see cold reset in the display and release the green button. When the printer comes to ready, wait about 2 minutes and then go to the information menu on the printer and print a configuration page. You will get 2 pages with the second page being the network settings. You use the ip address it found to load the printer on the computer. You will go to add printer, next, local printer, next and at the bottom will be a create port item. Click on it and in the drop down choose standard tcp/ip printer and then follow the prompts on the screen. When you get to the makers page choose hp on the left and then any laserjet pcl5 or postscript driver and finish up and it should work. Good Luck.

I am writing in hopes that you might be able to help me with a problem I am having trying to set up a HP LaserJet 4050 printer on my small home network.

I am using a Linksys WRT1900AC router with Smart WiFi. The printer, even though it is called "NP13AF05D", shows up on my "network",

I connected the printer using a HP JetDricet 620n card I bought and installed, with the Ethernet cable to a Ethernet port on the router. I then turned on the printer (using a "cold" start}. The router gave the printer a IP address of 192.168.1.165. I have been trying to install printer drivers from HP on my desktop PC running Windows 8.1 (64bit) and have not had any luck (cannot find any Laserjet 4050 drivers and I have tried any  PS drivers). The HP web site cannot "find the printer".

What am I doing wrong?

Use the universal print driver you can download from the document at the link below:
