Officejet 4650
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a new Officeket 4650 today and have had issues straight away.

1. Despite installing the setup catridges directly out of the box, it printer said they were not recognised (I took all the plastic off etc). I eventually figured it was the black catridge with the issue - and proceeded with a single catrdige installation as I needed to print today. I've tried putting the black setup catridge in, but it still says 'check the catridge is installed properly' (it is).

Could it have been that the black setup catridge was dodgy? WOuld installing a normal black catridge now work? I'm worried the problem could be with the printer itself.

2. I can't connect to web services. I tried to follow some of the steps regarding IP addresses and DNS on this post http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/Web-Services-problem-Server-connection-error/td-p/926... but have had no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

@James92

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet 4650 printer. I understand that you are getting a couple of issues with the printer like incompatible cartridge error and you are unable to connect to web services.

I see that you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting, I appreciate your effort.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

1)Follow these steps to fix incompatible cartridge error message.

  • Remove, inspect then reseat the ink cartridges.
  • Clean the electrical contacts.
  • Remove, then reinsert the ink cartridges again.
  • Reset the printer.
  • Click here and refer the document to perform above steps.

2)You should be able to connect to web services by performing below steps.

  • Check the network and printer connection status.
  • Restart the computer, printer, and router.
  • Turn on Web Services from the Embedded Web Server.
  • Check the Internet proxy server settings.
  • Update the printer and router firmware.
  • Click here and refer the document to perform above steps.

Let me know how it goes.

I hope it helps and if you feel I have answered your question and concerns,

Please mark this post as a solution accepted and Kudos would also be appreciated.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply.

Re the ink - I went through each step and it still doesn't work. I'm going to buy a new black catridge later to see if that works.

Web services - still don't work. I followed each step, but I couldn't follow the proxy step - see attached image. Connection doesn't show there. Any other ideas?

Hi! @James92, I am the @A4Apollo. It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

As you mentioned you still have issues after trying out the steps.

Please try the steps recommended below.

Resetting the printer can resolve an ink cartridge error.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
 NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot setup cartridge issues.

Let me know if this works!

Cheers! 🙂
