I spent a lot of time looking through the Web eventually finding a Web Page that gave what appeared to me to be objective assessments and as you can see the Canon C125 came out top.  However, I did check thes ratings on other Web Pages.

1. Canon C125 £380.00.                       SCORE 9.7

2. Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 £342.00     SCORE 8.9

3. Epson gt s55 scanner £432               SCORE 8.0

4. Canon dr-2020u £460.00                  SCORE 7.8 *

5. Epson Gt-1500 £238.00                    SCORE 7.4 *

I then considered the Software package that came with the scanner and there is no doubt that the Canon C125 also came out top with that.  However, one needs to ask, “Is all of that software necessary to the ordinary person.

Then came the matter of aesthetics because I don’t want to be surrounded by ugly things and most of the scanners I found looked to me to be just plain ugly with the exception of the Canon dr-2020u and the Epson Gt-1500

This whole search was started because the scanner that I bought claimed to scan at 8 seconds a page but only managed to do that by scanning to TIF and it struggled to scan to PDF within 1 minute.

I did not want to be caught out so I contacted Canon to ask how accurate their claimed scan times were and so far I have had no reply.  Epson however did and actually entered a one to one dialogue with me regarding the Gt - 1500 which concluded with an emphatic yes to my question on scanning speeds.  I dare say that most scanners will work satisfactorily but if one wants to be certain that one gets what one is after then one really needs to do a little research.

In conclusion I think that I will go for the Epson Gt – 1500 firstly because I like the look of it, secondly because of price and thirdly because even before I bought it I found superb customer service.

Corporal,

Ah, too bad it's not an HP.  Smiling.

Epson makes a good product.  Customer support is so important.  When any device can be bought and discarded so easily, the service and support we receive for a product is primary to our reason for our purchase.  I agree, too, with the idea of asthetics - I would never buy something that I cannot stand the look of it.  If it makes me cringe when I enter the room, then I'd rather not have it in my space.  It would just make me sad.  Smiling.

Thanks for posting back.

Good Luck with the new scanner.

I have taken on the subscription that pays for the service that is supposed to convert PDF to Word but it did not work for me.  I don't mind paying for one year but this is one of the subscriptions that automatically takes money each year and I can not work out how to stop it.  Can anyone help?

I thought that I had posted the following question but as I can't find it I will try again.  I have been given a HP Scanjet 5590 scanner with no Software or Drivers for 64 bit Windows 7 computer and looking through the Web I saw some awful comments on the experiences of those using the software and drivers.  I don’t want to make the same mistake so could anyone tell me how to go about obtain the correct software and drivers?

Hp has gotten too big and dont care about its individual customers. Byu a simple scanner. The simple the

scanner.........the happier you will be. I am an retired engineer from switzerland, B Boveri and know what I am
