The printer works fine, and I have got it working over USB.

However, I want to use it over a wired Ethernet connection. On initial installation, it came up with a 169... IP address, which of course indicates it cannot find the network (yes, it is plugged into the switch). When trying to *reset* it, it comes up with IP address 0.0.0.0. Of course neither will work over the network since these are not valid addresses.

My network does NOT have DHCP. In order to make the printer visible on the network, I need to assign it a static IP address (as I did with all my computers). I downloaded the actual User Guide (PDF - to my amazement not to be found on the CD). This does make a mention that setting a static IP address may be needed (indeed, it is!), but there is no further reference for how to do so.

So: HOW do I assign a static IP address + netmask to the printer so it will be visible on my network? i.e. I need to do this when the printer's internal web server CANNOT be accessed because it is not visible on the network now!

OS (requested but irrelevant) is Vista Home Premium  (soon to be replaced by Linux).

Hi,

Are you able to view EWS page of printer on computer?

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Thank you for the reply.

"Are you able to view EWS page of printer on computer?"

No, obviously not, since the printer is not visible on the network in the first place!

UNLESS there is a way to access that via the USB connection but I have been unable to find a way to do so.

All references to the EWS assume you can connect to the printer via the network - but in order to be able to do so I bnneed to assign it a valid IP address in teh first place.

Hi,

Since you have printer connected to a switch and static ip address set on computer, printer will not be able to pick IP address, So please try the workaround mentioned below.

1) On one of the computers where static ip address is set and working, disconnect from switch (Remember the ipaddress information handy like Static IP address range, subnet mask etc.)

2) Set computer to obtain IP address automatically

3) Connect printer to computer

4) Check if both printer and computer have 169 IP address.

5) Access EWS page of printer from computer using 169 IP address.

6) Set static ip address for printer in same range of computers connected to switch

7) Disconnect printer from computer and connect to switch

😎 Set static ip address on computer and connect to switch

9) Check if able to access EWS page of printer with new IP address set.

Thanks, that sounds like a good workaround.

I've yet to try it (some other HW issues to sort out first). I'll report back wether it works!
