laserjet 1100

Hi

After several years of good working, my old laserjet 1100 has a curious trouble in paper feeding:

While the print of the first page of a document  is nearly finished, the machine tàkes another sheet  and load it  up to half page, then suddenly stops it, causing a paper jam.

I' ve the service manual, but such a problem is not at all mentioned.

What can I do to fix it?

I've cleaned paper path and sensors and resetted the machine, with no success.

Regards

Donald

Amazing that old gravity feed printer is still working. Odds are the separation pad is worn causing the second sheet to start before the first sheet is finished moving. If you have the service manual look at replacing the separation pad which is not easy. There was a kit many years ago to solve separation pad issues where a new pad was fitted over the old pad using a special tool. I would think your printer probably had that kit installed since most 1100 did. The test is to load only one sheet of paper and run a 2 page test. If it completes the first page and then asks for you to load paper for the second page that will confirm the issue is the separation pad.

I,ve already used the famous kit, when the printer loaded two or more sheets and generated jams, successfully.

As I said the kit was probably installed which means you have to replace the actual separation pad assembly. I do not understand your second sentence but I am sure you can print ok if you just load 1 sheet in the feeder at a time and add 1 sheet at a time when the current sheet has finished printing. The jam will occur when more that 1 sheet is loaded since there is nothing to stop the second sheet behind it from feeding after the first sheet feeds. That is the purpose of the separation pad. Now there is also the outside chance that the pickup solenoid of the feeder is sticking. Look in the service manual as I think it is located on the left side and the sticking will be caused by the dampening material having worn away and all that is left is the glue that held it in place. If the solenoid you just remove the glue and put down and thin strip of material like a velco pad and that will also make it work. You will need to remove the main cover to access it.

Hi

Sorry

I've been  forced to change browser, owing to a popup (I cannot avoid it, because I'm using my android smart tv, instead of my usual pc)

After having modified my printer in this way, it worked up to last week.

I' ve also tried to increase the strenght of the separation pad spring....and tried to hold the second sheet...by hand,  but the printer is stronger than my hand...

Tomorrow (better today..I live in Italy and it's half past two a.m.) I'll execute the test  with two pages( one by one)

, but if, after first sheet, the machine goes on  asking paper...what's  the meaning?

As soon as possible,I '' ll try and after I'll post the results.

Thank you

'll

Thank you more

By the syntoms, I think that the second hypothesis is the right one.

I'll verify the solenoid.

I've already tried to place a thin rubber strip on the separation pad, but the behaviour of the printer was the same.

I remember that this problem has ..born after a heavy toner loss.

Hi

Success!

Your second solution has been the right one!

I've cleaned the solenoid and related components from toner, dust etc.

Now my printer is working again

Thank you much
