I've this printer for just over a year now I believe and it was pretty easy to setup and since then it's flawlessly, until today. It's connected to my network via wireless and I can print to it but all of a sudden, when I load a doc in the top tray and go to scan to email is says 'Connecting' for a second then goes to 'Connecting to the Internet' and just sits there for several minutes before going back to the main screen. I just did a complete factory reset through the interface and setup the network connection again and I'm getting the same results. Any ideas?

Edit: I also just tried connecting via ethernet straight into my router and I get the same results. I can print, it's connected to my home network, but it won't "Connect to the Internet" to scan/email.

Thanks,

Andy

I had the exact same issue just start happening to me today while trying to scan. I came here after doing a search online to see if there was a fix. I have done everything from restarting my network, factory reset on printer, etc. Still not working. I can print wirelessly, just can't scan to email any longer as it gets hung up on connecting.

I wonder if it's an issue with HP? I needed to sign and scan a doc for work here so my work around, until I find a fix for scan to email, was to scan to a USB stick. Not sure if you're in a rush or not.

Thanks Andy. I found if you are on a Mac you can go to Printers and Scanners in System Prefs, choose the 7640 and change the highlighted button from Print to Scan and then hit the Open Scanner... button. You can then get the scanner working again that way. Doesn't fix the scan/email issue though, but was a work around for me.
