DesignJet T920
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, first time on the forum so hopefully won't do anything wrong!

I'm part of the IT Department in a company which still heavily relies upon paper printing, with our main used plotter being the T920.

As I said, I'm part of the IT Department, so put an HUGE 'If it's possible' prior to the upcoming question, and thanks to everybody who's gonna try and help me!

I've recently updated the driver associated with the T920, located on my print-server;

Since the update, I've had mainly two users claiming that, prior to the update, they were able to print on any sheets -factor / size with the T920 automatically cutting at the very end of the printer, leaving no waster paper whatsoever.

As of today, they also claim that a lot of paper is being waster, and I actually verified so, and that the issue comes from the update I've made to the driver.

I tried different drivers from the official HP Support Site in the past days, without luck - Apparently the only way to waste less paper is to manually select a smaller paper factor / Size.

What I'm asking is - Is it possible for the plotter to automatically cut before the end of the paper-selected-size, right after the printed area, bypassing what Autocad (Our main drawing software) shows in the preview ?

IF yes, how can I set this setting back in place, so to waste less paper?

Else, is the only way to waste less paper to manually set many different sizes for the sheets ?

Hi, Thanks for contacting with HP Support forum.

Please note: all HP DesignJet printer can cut the paper from only roll paper/media. Cut sheet paper not supported to cut the paper.

If you want to minimize your paper waste, you need to select minimum margins in the drawing. And printer will automatically cut the paper from roll paper.

If you need anymore help, please share.

I hope that information will help to you.

Please accept my solutions and give thumbs.

Hello Rashes and thank you for your quick answer,

Apparently that is exactly what doesen't happen: The Plotter is loaded with a paper roll media, the user selects the 'size' of the cut from Autocad interface (A1, A2, Oversize A0, and so on) but apparently the plotter cuts based on the chosen paper cut-size.

I'm gonna try and explain how we tried to reproduce the issue in those days, and the behaviour adopted from the drawing department:

- Once an Autocad drawing / table is concluded,  we tried to print it from the Autocad / Viewer print interface

- In that interface we've chosen the option, included in the downloaded and installed driver, to print on Oversize A0, we also removed the 'Fill' option, menaning that the drawing wouldn't get the whole width/height of A0 cut

- What we noticed is that, with such configuration, the printing preview is also mainly empty, with the drawing taking only a small part if the printable space

- Apparently, the output is exactly the same seen on the preview, maybe because the plotter sees the white space as 'to-print-space' and doesen't cut it automatically

What I can't get is the reason behind this behaviour, apparently before the driver update that 'to-print-space' was nonexistant in the actual print, dunno about the preview;

As of now, the only way to avoid paper waste, is to choose a different cut-size from the driver, which has to be different for every drawing, based on the width and the height of the drawing itself.

As for the margins, we're at an almost marginless state, infact the drawing usually fits perfectly on 3 of 4 sides, with the 4th, usually the upper one, being the one where the paper waste happens.

FYI the waste I'm talking about goes from few centimeters / 2 inches to over a meter, depending on the chosen cut in the driver interface (A2, A0, A1, etc)
