Entree to there is a flange that you can lift to change the separation roller and sometimes the spring that holds that flange down mysteriously disappears.
What I do to get the tray open is reach through from the back side of the machine and hold the flange down while opening the tray.
You might also be able to put something like a yardstick in and hold the flange down while pushing it out from the back side.
If that is your problem and you get the tray opened in a piece of Scotch tape will hold the flange down and it's a really cheap fix.
You can even click both buttons. . .
