Printer is 6500 Wireless.  I can't print.  My laptop says my printer is offline.  I've tried turning off router and printer and back on again.  The wireless light on the printer is on.  I've run an HP troubleshooting program.  It identifies my printer but says the printer is turned off.  The printer is NOT turned off.  I've turned it off and on a couple times, but the software still says the printer is turned off.  I've run a test report on the printer and it identifies my wireless network.  I've run a network configuration page on the printer and it says the wireless' status is "Disconnected".  Any ideas?

Hi fish2242, This would be the best guide to follow to get your printer back online Smiley Happy Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status

I am having the same problem. The error message when I run the troubleshooter is that the printer is powered OFF. It does not indicate an issue with it being offline. It is saying the power is off.

Well, I tried powering the printer off and back on, unpligging and replugging the printer back in, reset my network connection, checked my router and modem, etc. Troubleshooter still thinks the printer is powered off. It is clearly on. It printed a test page just fine. It printed the Network Configuration page just fine (and shows no issues). This happened immediately after allowing HP to update my printer.

Did your issue resolve?

I am having the same issue with a C310 photosmart printer. My computer keeps saying the printer is switched off but the printer is on and the network report shows everything connected and ready to go!

I had this problem and resolved it! Maybe this will help you, too.

Go to https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/details/hp-officejet-6500-all-in-one-printer-series-e709/379530... and type in your printer name in the bar. Search. Select your product from a list.

Download the driver package (just follow the instructions step-by-step). This might take a while to download and install.

While installing the package, make sure you CUSTOMIZE which software you want and DESELECT Bing and all that other crapware. Only install HP Update as an add-on, NOTHING ELSE ITS ALL CRAP and you do not need or want it.

The printer assistant installer will figure out what on earth is going on with your printer network.

For me, it was that my printer is connected to a different router than my PC. Therefore, it installed my printer for use via the Internet using the printer's IP address (you can get this by going to your device, and telling it to print a "network configuration page" or something similar, from the Network menu [maybe within the Settings menu]) instead of configuring for use on the router's local wifi network.

I hope this helps you. Even if you've already installed your printer drivers, or even if your PC already detects your printer, re-installing the driver package should troubleshoot your issue more thoroughly than what your PC is able to detect and resolve on its own.

says printer is turned off but it is on

My printer keeps sying it is off line and it is not. I have disconnected everything, reconnected , turned off my laptop and restarted it and it still says it is off line. Is their something on the laptop keyboard I could have touched to turn it offline?

This worked for me as well.  For me the problem was that, though I had uninstalled and reinstalled the printer from the windows system, there was still a printer listed as installed to a TCP/IP port that was in conflict.  So, I was getting that same message from troubleshooter that my printer was off.

The installation program for the drivers fixed it. 🙂

Thanks

The answer is hard to find, but is deep within HP's help page:  during a wireless installation you are asked for the IP address of your printer, which will be something like 129.186.0.3.  It seems the software applies this incorrectly to the WSD Port, which cannot, it seems, be reconfigured (or, indeed, checked).  Solution:  navigate to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers and you should see your printer with green tick, but greyed out.  Right click this, and in the drop-down menu click Printer Properties.  Click on Change Properties (bottom left) which opens up a configurable version.  Go to Tab 3, Ports.  If you find the WSD Port ticked (it may well have a reference to HP Printer beside it), it is probably still locked against interference.  Click on the little box marked Standard IP/TCP Port and then on Configure Port (bottom right).  A new box pops up, on which you should ignore the top line, which is the Port Name.  In the next box, Printer Name or IP Address, you may well find your printer's IP address is incorrect (e.g. 129.186.0.0).  Just change this to the correct number, click OK at the bottom to close it.   Click Apply and OK on the previous box, and close it.   Back out, and, with luck, find that your printer is no longer greyed out  -  i.e. it is back online.   Try to print something.   (If you have something in the queue already, it will probably already have printed  -  mine did.)  This does not completely solve the issue, because my system now flashes up a message at the end of printing to say the printer cannot be found on the network.   This is nonsense, and just dismiss the message.  I haven't solved this yet, but if I do I'll post an update.

If this fix doesn't solve your problem, I am sorry, but neither can I.   All I can say is, it worked for me.
