This worked for me, after years of problems. However the steps were not quite the same as in your post. Once in the Ports tab, I had to click "Add Port" and select "Standard TCP/IP port". It was sufficient to enter the IP address in the top field of the dialogue box because, by default, the port is given the IP address as a name. Simply adding the port took over the printer from the WSD port.
