URGH... i've barely had this printer and already receiving error messages.  I've been able to copy just fine until this morning... now it gives me a "Device is busy... try again later" message.  I've tried turning the power off and then back off, but that's not working.  Any simple solutions out there?  Thanks!

Hello, @melpogue – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.

Going through your post, I understand that you are getting a “Device busy” message on your printer. This could be caused due to the power supply related issues. I would suggest performing a power drain to try and fix this issue.

Here are the steps:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂

These applications are not available for Mac OS.

As an alternate reset the printing system.

  • Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
  • Click Printers & ScannersPrint & Scan, or Print & Fax.
  • Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

Superb job on trying the different steps to isolate the issue.

Try restoring the factory set defaults.

  • On the product control panel, touch the Setup button.
  • Scroll to and touch the Service menu.
  • Scroll to and touch the Restore Defaults button, and then touch the OK button.
  • The product automatically restarts.
