At first, it seemed like the black ink wasn't working, so I took internet advice and took out the cartridges and laid them face up for a while. The black ink is now working, but now it is only printing grayscale. When I do printer quality testing and all that, all of the colors come out fine. I printed those pre-installed sheets from the printer and it printed color just fine. It is only when I print something off my computer that it prints gray scale, even when I select color printing on my document. I double check that I select color printing on my document, and it is still printing grayscale. I did the cleaning cycles. How do I fix this?

Hi @ReeganLeigh,
Good Day. Thanks for visiting the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding issues with the printer printing only in grayscale and not in color. It will be a pleasure to assist you here.
Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 🙂
.For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a recent app or MAC OS update?
- Did you try to reset the Mac printing system?
It looks like a driver issue as the print report prints the colors fine.
For a start please try these steps:
- Reset the Mac printing system from here http://hp.care/2s1Aa0C
- Then download and install the full feature software from this link: http://hp.care/2tzdYQc after selecting the correct operating system. This should fix the issue.
- This is link is a print driver settings link: http://hp.care/2tA8jcC for Mac which could be of great assistance.
Please look up “Color and black & white settings” option from this link.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
